Social media may seem like something you enjoy in your spare time, but an expert has said that it could really make the difference when it comes to securing a job.
According to Lizzie Fane, founder of ThirdYearAbroad.com, students with a "significant online presence" will find it easier to get themselves a job after university.
You've heard the figures before, but there's no harm in reminding you just how powerful social media has become in business – almost two-thirds of online businesses increased their staff levels in the last year, while three-quarters of e-commerce businesses have increased their turnover since last year – opening up more job opportunities.
And many graduates already have the skills for these new job sectors, Ms Fane said.
"For example, there are an increasing number of internet businesses abroad looking for English-speaking graduates with social media skills; if students make an effort to have a significant online presence - via a blog, YouTube or Twitter accounts - and a large network of friends and followers before they leave university, they will find it much easier to get a job in whichever country they want to work."
