Workers looking for retail jobs in Ipswich will be pleased to hear that supermarket giant Waitrose has acquired a unit for its first shop in the town.
The company announced the acquisition of a unit in the town's Corn Exchange which will measure 5,000 square feet.
The shop will take the form of a convenience store as opposed to a huge supermarket, but it is part of the company's plan to expand massively in the UK over the next five years. Real estate firm Jones Lang La Salle (JLL) agreed a 15-year lease with Ipswich Borough Council for the supermarket.
JLL's London office director Paul Faulkner said: "This new store for Waitrose demonstrates that the supermarket chain is now making real headway in its convenience store opening programme as well as showcasing its ability to work harmoniously with buildings of great historical importance."
The company announced plans to expand throughout the UK with the North West of England seeing a particularly large expansion.
