People looking for retail jobs may be pleased to hear about how the Olympics is expected to impact on the sector.
According to a new report from independent retail analyst Verdict, sales are expected to be boosted by around £100 million during the time of the Olympics – which is good news for people on the hunt for jobs in retail, as more workers will be needed to meet demand.
The report predicts that one of the major impacts on the retail sector will be tourism, as many more people will visit the country, bringing more shoppers to UK stores.
And the top areas of retail expected to profit from the Olympics are clothing and footwear, which will account for almost £60 million, the report said.
Honor Westnedge, analyst at Verdict, added: "Though in the context of total retail the potential gains seem small, these will be focused on just a few retail categories.
"After clothing and footwear, sales of gifts and souvenirs and jewellery will experience the next biggest uplift (accounting for £21.7 million), followed by homewares, (£9.7 million), and food and grocery (£9.5 million)."
REC's latest JobsOutlook survey suggested recently that the number of retail jobs would increase in the next year, revealing that over one-third of employers said that they will be looking to add to their existing staff.
