I'm sure many job candidates will have been disappointed not to see themselves offered a job they really wanted, or a friend or family member for that matter.
However, not many people would go to the slightly bizarre lengths of handcuffing themselves to a goalpost at a Premier League football match in order to display their displeasure.
However, that's exactly what one man did at Goodison Park, the home of Everton Football Club, when they played host to Manchester City recently. It is believed he was protesting at the recruitment policy of an airline which didn’t offer his daughter a job.
In a statement Everton said: "Bolt-cutters were used to remove the offender, who was roundly booed as he was escorted from the ground.
"It transpired that the supporter is a known professional protester, allegedly protesting about an airline's recruitment policy. He was arrested by Merseyside Police, who are now dealing with the matter."
Hardly the best way to react to a job knock back, we would suggest.
