Telford 's growth plans for the next twenty years are ambitious. With billions of pounds to be invested in the town along with a substantial commitment from a number of businesses locating their businesses in the area, and combined with a rapidly growing population that is set to increase by more than 30 per cent within twenty years, Telford is undeniably the fastest growing areas in the West Midlands.
Getting around Telford
The infrastructure for Telford new town was designed primarily for unrestricted car usage, which means that congestion levels are significantly lower here than in towns of equal size aided by the fact that residents in Telford travel shorter distances to work compared to elsewhere in the West Midlands region. As such 75 per cent of workers commute to work by car which is causing a headache for the local Council that is trying to implement a Climate Change Transport Strategy to encourage more people to use public services instead in an effort to reduce CO2 emissions.
The town is linked to the West Midlands conurbation by the M54 motorway and serviced north-south by the A442 Queensway - known locally the Eastern Primary. And once you arrive in the town centre, there are around 13 car parks offering short- and long- term stay.
With 70 per cent of Telford 's workforce living within 6 miles of their place of work, it is not surprising that the majority of them opt to travel by car. But if you live further afield Telfrd rail station is on the main line for Arriva Trains Wales routes from Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury and Wellington . Whereas London Midland serves nearby Shifnal and Oakengates and Cosford. Alternatively, there area a number of local and regional bus routes that terminate in the town centre.

Telford Shopping Centre is the retail centre of the town and is home to the largest indoor shopping centre in Shropshire, classed as one of the best in the Midlands and sits comfortably in the top 10 nationally. Built under one roof over a 50-acre site in the centre of the town, it has 160 stores including a number of well-known names such as House of Fraser, Debenhams, Marks & Spencer, H&M and Zara.
When it comes to eating out, Telford is inundated with the usual collection of Frankie & Benny-type eateries, European, Oriental and Indian restaurants and national pub chains that also serve food. Its culinary offering is adequate but you may struggle to find somewhere to appeal to a finer palate.
A number of good restaurants and pubs can be found at Much Wenlock, Ironbridge Broseley and Muxton with a few notable places worth trying out, such as The Malthouse Restaurant & Jazz Bar, Tontine Hotel, Chez Maw, Horse and Jockey and Shakespeare Inn.

Or Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom has lots of farm activities including sheep shearing, bottle-feeding lambs and milking demonstrations.
Main residential areas
Telford is a new town planned in the 1960's and deliberately designed to provide low density housing. The housing market has consistently performed well above both regional and national averages, and Telford 's reputation as a housing hotspot is likely to continue given the predicted growth and sustained programme of renewal that is taking place throughout the borough. Yet in spite of high growth rates, average house prices in Telford are still below the regional average.
Identified as a main growth point within the West Midlands Regional Spatial Strategy, around 20,000 new homes are set to be built over the next 20 years – a mix of apartments and traditional housing.
Major new housing developments already underway include Ironstone at Lawley , East Ketley Millennium Community and Lightmoor Urban Village . Elsewhere, Wrockwardine is a popular suburb of Telford with large detached houses along with Dawley and Oakengates.
